Craft  - Isolated Women's Support Group

Originally we were a small group of women who meet every second Wednesday to do craft, we have now evolved into a group of about 20 women, all with very diverse needs and skills, we have become a centre point for our small community, because of our diverse needs we have renamed our group to the “Hargraves Isolated Women’s Support Group”.

We have assisted other charities in the Mudgee area by making a quilt and donating it so it could be raffled to raise money for a school in East Timor and several other local projects. Our aim is to continue helping out other local organizations while supporting each other through some very hard times covering a large range of issues both medically and personal, we also aim to teach younger women in our area basic skills like sewing, Knitting or cooking.  We also aim to organise and run information and educational evenings (eg) health problems, basic computer skills and financial planning and budgeting, and any other topic we identify a need for, as living so far out of town makes it difficult to access such programs.

We have just moved into the council owned building known as the Court House, this was only achieved by the help of our local community, who patched and painted the rooms we now use, with the help of a grant we have been able to purchase a sewing machine, overlocker, tables and chairs. These rooms are also used by the district nurse to attend to monthly visits and at the moment conducting free hearing tests for the community.

Our current project is to hold a  country crafts market day planned for Sunday November 22nd  This will be held in the park at Hargraves, sites are available at $10.00 per sites which  can be booked by phoning Margaret Colley at 02 63738634. The Market day will  bring together a large range of hand made products and create an outlet for our local crafts people, we also hope to provide a fun day out for all who visit, plus raise money for our local fire brigade.

Our group extends an open invitation to any one who would like to come along and join in every second Wednesday starting at 11am and continuing until around 3pm just bring your lunch, tea and coffee provided any questions ring M Colley 0263738634,Leianne Milsom 0263738660 or Helen Roach 02 63738545
